Lift the EC Transfer Limits
A couple months back, Entrecard imposed changes to the credit system by adding a 12.5% tax on Entrecard credits and limiting the amount of ECs users can transfer to others daily and weekly. Though the intentions of these changes are good – the goal is to eliminate the selling of ECs outside the system – it has been hurting Entrecard and the community.
It’s pretty noticeable how much contests have died down. In fact, I haven’t come across an Entrecard contest in weeks. I was finally truly affected when I was setting up the process for allowing people to order paid posts on EntreBlast and noticed that the cost would not go above 999 ECs. So, I sent a letter to Entrecard’s support e-mail which will hopefully make it to Graham.
The letter read:
Hey Graham,
I posted this on the forum but have received no response. Can you please lift the EC trading limits? Now that users can sell their Entrecard credits through Entrecard, there isn’t any reason to have limits on transferring ECs. People can sell their credits back to Entrecard, credit farmers aren’t really problems these days.Lifting the EC transfer limits would bring back contests without the annoying hassle of having to contact admin to arrange it for them. Have you noticed that there aren’t big contests anymore? Holding contests was a great benefit to Entrecard and would surely sprout life back into the community feel.
Additionally, I can’t charge more than 999 ECs for ads or paid posts on my blog via OIOPublisher. This is ridiculous considering people pay 2,000+ ECs for a one day ad through Entrecard, why not allow them to pay more than 999 ECs for one month ads, or a featured post on a blog. I understand you are concerned about people selling their credits outside of Entrecard, but I think the priorities need to be adjusted here. What’s more important: trying to keep people from selling and buying credits from people other than Entrecard, or pleasing the members that essentially form Entrecard.
I miss contests, and I know everyone else does too. The ‘Contests’ forum is completely dead now. It would be a logical decision to lift this EC cap. You’re already hindering the transfer of ECs by having a tax. I understand you want to take ECs out of the system, lifting this trade limit would actually HELP with that goal. See, people win a lot of ECs through a contest, and they’ll probably want to sell them for money. Of course now they are able to sell it back to you guys (credit farming is DEAD and they know they can get banned for selling them outside Entrecard).
At this point, Entrecard is in need of some change to spark enthusiasm and interest back into Entrecard. This would be a wise move and I hope you see that too. I have posted this e-mail to my blog and if you watch the post, you’ll see the response of other Entrecard members.
Sincerely yours,
Casey

I’m interested in your input, so please comment on this post. I believe we can get this limit removed so we can bring contests back to Entrecard.

Here is a major Entrecard contest that you must have missed: http://bigdaddyrichard-swirlingthoughts.blogspot.com/2009/05/make-review-of-this-site-and-win-10000.html
Thanks, it’s maybe the only one out there right now. What about your thoughts on these limits?
Hi – I definitely think the limit should be lifted. I offer paid posts and advertising through the EC market – you can charge whatever amount of credits you want. Do you use the market?
I have and I’ll try the market out with paid posts but I’d like to make full use of OIOPublisher, whom they worked together with to add the capability of paying with ECs with OIOPublisher.
Sounds good to me… I haven’t seen Graham around in a while though. I wonder if he hasn’t abandoned the site for other projects at this point.
I can certainly see your points on the taxes and limits, but since I have never participated in a Entrecard contest–let alone hosted one, I don’t really have any thoughts about them.
They are really beneficial for both sponsors and those who host the contests. It was how I really kick started my blog.
You are kidding right ?
Graham, Answer You – HA !
yeah that’ll happen when Pigs Fly Airplanes.
Entrecard is a sinking ship, as you and others can now see.
it’s only being kept afloat by the dropping activity of the
few faithful members who are here for blog visits, and not
payouts. the payout scheme is what is the root of the problem.
but then dont’ you think the Entrecard Management Knows That ?
I can tell you surely after all the comments to that effect and the blog protests and problems – everybody knows it, so it’s no secret dear.
Well I expect a reply, or I’ll just keep e-mailing them.
Here’s a link to another 10,000 EC contest that I just ran across: http://vanillaseven.com/2009/05/23/peacock-contest-win-10000ec-credits/
Two. In comparison to how it used to be, everyone held contests. And BIG contests too. Not that 10,000 ECs isn’t big, but sponsoring contests used to be easier making it possible to hold 50,000+ EC contests.
I’ll be honest and say that I think we might be experiancing the end of EC. I love the system and have even been helping out with the Paid Ads (though I know that people are sensitive about this issue)However, Contest are a pain now like you said, and I have waited nearly 4 weeks for my cashout request to go through. What is so hard about giving me that?
I don’t know, but EC does have a lot of work to do.
I am becoming increasingly more afraid that what Izzy said about the end of Entrecard being near is true. Hopefully, someone like Google will buy it and make things even better than before.
I’m still waiting for Graham’s reply.
